What is a manufacturer service part?
It is a replacement supplied through the brand’s service network, such as a dial, hand, bezel, crown, crystal, bracelet component or movement part. It may be correct for continued use but manufactured later than the watch.
That differs from an aftermarket component, which is not supplied or authorised by the manufacturer.
Which replacements matter most?
On collectible vintage watches, the dial, hands, bezel and case can define much of the appeal. Replacing them may create a cleaner watch while reducing period originality.
Routine internal wear parts, gaskets and crystals can be assessed differently, particularly on modern watches intended for regular use.
Why are invoices and returned parts useful?
A detailed invoice establishes what the service centre did and when. Returned original components can preserve provenance and may allow future owners to understand or restore the earlier configuration where appropriate.
Keep parts labelled with the watch and do not attempt to refit them yourself.
How should I disclose service replacements?
State the known work and upload the invoice with unnecessary personal details covered. Photograph removed parts separately and include the current dial, bezel, crown, hands and case from clear angles.
If the history is unknown, say so. The buyer can inspect the watch without relying on an unsupported originality claim.
