Damaged-watch guide

Can I sell a damaged luxury watch?

Damage does not automatically make a luxury watch unsaleable. The reference, severity, repairability, parts availability and underlying originality determine whether a buyer can make a sensible offer.

Separate cosmetic wear from functional damage

Surface scratches and bracelet wear differ from cracked crystals, bent crowns, damaged pushers or a movement that stops. Describe whether the issue affects use, setting or timekeeping.

A photograph cannot prove internal condition, but it can help the buyer decide whether physical inspection is worthwhile.

Moisture and impact require care

If moisture is visible under the crystal, stop operating the watch and obtain appropriate professional advice. Repeated winding or setting can worsen internal damage.

After a hard impact, avoid testing every function. Loose components may cause further movement or dial damage.

Why repair estimates vary

Parts availability, movement complexity, case material and manufacturer policies influence cost. A discontinued component or complicated movement can change the economics materially.

Replacement of a dial, hands, bezel or case part can also affect originality, even when the component is genuine.

Present the watch as it is

Show chips, dents, corrosion, missing parts and known faults. Include any prior repair quote, service refusal or water-damage report without presenting it as a guarantee.

A direct offer will reflect uncertainty and repair risk. You remain free to repair, retain or seek another route if the as-is figure does not suit you.

A quote is specific to the watch.

Guide content is general information. A direct-purchase quote is based on the details and photographs you provide. If a material difference is found, we contact you before any change is made.
