Strap replacement is normal
Leather and rubber are consumable items and may be replaced repeatedly during a watch’s life. A tasteful replacement does not make the underlying watch counterfeit.
The buckle, deployant clasp and attachment hardware can carry separate value and should be identified accurately.
Keep the original components
Include the original strap even when worn, provided it can be stored hygienically and safely. Manufacturer buckles, end links, spring bars and bracelets may support completeness.
Photograph each component separately and state which item is currently fitted.
When the effect is larger
A missing precious-metal bracelet, integrated bracelet or reference-specific clasp can represent substantial replacement cost. Some vintage bracelets are difficult to source in correct condition.
A generic leather strap on a conventional dress watch may have a much smaller effect if the correct buckle remains.
Assess before spending
Buying a branded strap at retail immediately before sale may not add the same amount to the offer. Incorrect sizing or hardware can create another problem.
Submit every retained component first. The buyer can assess whether sourcing an original part would materially change the transaction.
